Ikeda
Ikeda is a small module for calculating the roll damping of symmetrical monohull vessels.
Background and application
The program is based on the work of [1, 2]. Based on extensive model tests, Ikeda and his colleagues showed that the roll damping of ships can be summed up from several components with practically sufficient accuracy.
Today’s ship designs often feature flat, wide stern sections. For these sections, the original program from Ikeda provides roll damping that is far too large due to the vortex shedding. For this reason, the formulae were modified so that the damping remains within plausible ranges.
The results of this module are used by Strip, Rolf and SiS as input data.
Figure 1 shows an example of computed roll damping.
